How to Recover My Deleted WhatsApp Messages?

For some reasons, you may get your important WhatsApp messages and chat histories accidentally deleted. But the great news is that the WhatsApp chat app comes with inbuilt backup functionalities that automatically saves chats from the last 7 days locally on your device at a fixed time every day.

You can also set up an additional backup on both cloud and locally on a device for your WhatsApp messages and chat histories. The scope of this article covers this, as well as how you can recover deleted messages on WhatsApp in models such as Samsung, Lenovo, LG, Oppo, Vivo, and Gionee.

Using the Software to recover WhatsApp chat history

Except you deactivated the default backup settings on your WhatsApp, all your chat histories are supposed to be automatically backed up locally on your device. This happens periodically and unfailingly, provided you have sufficient memory space either on your device or on the attached external microSD card.

If you haven’t tampered with your default backup settings, you should be able to recover any deleted message or chat history by uninstalling your WhatsApp, reinstalling it, and then approving the app to restore your backed-up messages by tapping “Restore” during the reinstallation process. And then the backed-up files will be automatically recovered. How to hack whatsapp

If you want to recover only selected messages instead of entire chat history, you can do that by doing the following:

  1. Uninstall WhatsApp.
  2. And then open WhatsApp backup or database folder to locate the files you are willing to restore. The WhatsApp backup folder can be found in SD card > WhatsApp > Databases. If the WhatsApp backup folder is in the phone memory, visit your device memory, and then locate the backup folder inside the WhatsApp folder.
  3. Rename the item from “msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt7” to “msgstore.db.crypt7”.
  4. Reinstall your WhatsApp, and then tap Restore upon the prompt during the reinstallation.

But you need to take some precautions to ensure your files are backed up properly.

Always ensure that there’s sufficient space on your device or attached external memory for the operations of the backup function. And if your memory space has been corrupted, your backup files may also be compromised.

Since the latest messages have been backed up, you will lose them when you uninstall your WhatsApp. One way around this setback is to use a manual backup to save the files that haven’t been backed up yet. But you need to be careful when doing this, as you could end up overwriting the automatically created backup file.

To backup a file manually, open WhatsApp> Menu> Settings> chat settings> Backup conversations. After you do this, the manually created backup file will be saved as “msgstore.db.crypt7” in the Databases folder of WhatsApp. But you should rename the message backup file to something like “msgstore.db.crypt7.new” to easily identify it in case you want to recover it.

Nonetheless, after recovering the deleted files, you may find it mixed up improperly with the new messages, so you need to be prepared to cross this bridge when you get there.
